Board Member Responsibilities
As a potential board member of The Princess Academy, you will be expected to:

Chair or Co-Chair one of the following committees:

Fundraising Committee: Develop and oversee fundraising strategies, coordinate activities, and build donor relationships to ensure financial support for initiatives, including the Prom Dress and Back-to-School Giveaways.

Community Giveaways Committee: Lead the planning and execution of the Prom Dress Giveaway and Back-to-School Giveaway events, managing logistics, securing supplies, and overseeing a fair winner selection process.

Community Events Committee Chair: Implement and coordinate the College Readiness Summit and additional community events, ensuring smooth logistics, engaging speakers, and maximizing participation.

Educational Programs Committee Chair: Oversee the development and implementation of after-school programs, design enriching curriculum activities, and evaluate their success to support youth development.

Represent the Organization
Act as a spokesperson, interpreting the organization’s work and values to the community. -
Participate Actively
Attend and actively engage in 85% of board and committee meetings, which equates to a maximum of two missed meetings. All meetings will be held virtually, except for the Strategic Planning Meeting in October, which will take place in Metro Atlanta area. -
Support Major Events
Attend and support the Prom Dress Giveaway (February) and College Readiness Summit (September). -
Be Prepared
Come prepared to discuss the agenda items and read all relevant background materials before meetings. -
Maintain Confidentiality
Keep all board meeting discussions and information confidential. -
Act in the Organization's Best Interest
Prioritize the organization’s interests above personal interests and excuse yourself from discussions or votes where a conflict of interest may arise. -
Engage in Decision-Making
Take responsibility for participating in decisions related to issues, policies, and other board matters. -
Collaborate with Staff and Board Members
Work in good faith with staff and other board members towards achieving the organization's goals. -
Fundraising Commitment
Provide a minimum annual contribution of $500, either through personal donations or by securing contributions from others, which breaks down to approximately $42 per month. Fifty percent of the fundraising obligation is due by June 15th, with the remaining balance due by December 15th. -
Responsiveness
Be responsive to communications from fellow board members and staff, ensuring timely participation in discussions and decisions.
Serve a Two-Year Term
Commit to serving a two-year term on the Board of Directors.
